The French seam pillowcase is a super easy and fun giftable project.

You need a little more than a yard of fabric per pillowcase, and it is super easy to customize the fabric to match a special occasion or special interest. I made two from start to finish while filming this tutorial in a little less than 90 minutes, so they’re pretty quick too.

The French seam sounds super fancy, but it is a pretty straight-forward way to enclose raw edges and create a seam that is super strong and a better quality than serged ones you’ll find in a store.

Just add the FREE printable PDF and you can follow along as you watch the video.

If you want a coordinated set, like I made, you need:

  • 1 yard each of two fabrics for the body and sleeves
  • 1/4 yard for the flange

If you want a matched set, you need:

  • 1/2 yard for the sleeve
  • 1 1/2 yards for the body
  • 1/4 yard for the flange
